Silicone Roof Coating for Extreme Environments
GE Enduris 100% silicone roof coating was chosen by the customer, Melones Oil Terminal Company, to coat 16 oil tanks located on Melones Island off the Pacific coast of Panama, and about 20 km from Panamá City. The tanks, standing 30m high, have geodesic dome shaped roofs that are each about 11,000 sqsf in area.
Being on this very small island, the tanks are constantly exposed to ocean breezes/winds and marine salinity. Daytime temperatures typically reach up to 34°C and humidity can reach 95%. Roof coating was specified to stop rain water that had begun to leak through the aluminum lids of the tanks- including the joints and fasteners.
GE Enduris 3508 coating was selected for this project due to its long term performance capabilities in extreme weather conditions, and due to the proactiveness of the accompanying technical support from the contractor Ingespro, a GE Silicones Authorized Applicator, and the local MPM distributor, Megasilants.
Enduris coating was applied at 21 mils DFT, followed by issuance of a 10 year material warranty. Now fully sealed and protected from leaks, these tanks are again able to maintain the highest possible quality of fuel oil for distribution to customers, and satisfying the customer by allowing them to provide the highest standard of oil fuel supply to their customers.
